Woodforest Awards Contract for Pool ComplexNovember 15, 2012
The master-planned community of Woodforest has awarded LDF Construction the contract to build the next stage of its Forest Island recreation complex. The contract includes construction of a resort-style pool with 6,000 square feet of water surface and 10,000 square feet of decking. The pool area includes a 42-foot tower with two 29-foot water slides, a zero-entry area for toddlers, a log balance beam leading to an island and a water sports area for volleyball and basketball. A second contract from Municipal Utility District 113, also awarded to LDF Construction, includes construction of an arrival building with restrooms and lifeguard check-in and a party pavilion. Construction of the pool area should begin by the end of the year, with an opening planned for summer 2013. Forest Island amenities slated to open by the end of 2012 include two tennis courts and a full-size basketball court. Trails and a footbridge will connect the Forest Island complex to other Woodforest amenities and neighborhoods. Leading the design of the Forest Island complex is TBG Partners, a landscape architecture firm. “Much like other Woodforest amenities, the entire complex is being built in a heavily wooded area of the development,” said TBG principal Meade Mitchell. “As with many state parks, a long drive through the trees to Forest Island will create a heightened sense of expectation, and Forest Island will not disappoint.” Consulting with TBG on the project were Curry Boudreaux Architects, Aquatic Design and Engineering and civil engineers LJA.
