Imperial - New outlet mall set for the Houston areaSeptember 22, 2014
Shoppers prepare. A new outlet mall is coming to the Houston area. Paragon Outlet Partners plans to build an outlet mall in Rosenberg, a city just outside of Sugar Land. The Baltimore-based commercial development company reached an agreement with the city of Rosenberg and the Rosenberg Development Corp. to build the mall at I-69 and Spacek Road. The outlet will measure approximately 400,000 square feet. The company did not disclose if and what retailers have signed on for the project. Paragon anticipates breaking ground on the project in spring of 2015. The outlet mall project is estimated to create 400 construction jobs and eventually 1,000 permanent jobs once it is open, according to a statement by the city of Rosenberg. “The Paragon Outlets Houston development will be the only outlet mall in the southwest Houston region and as such, will be a regional draw, infusing outside dollars into our local economy, and increasing our community’s exposure in the region,” said Randall Malik, Rosenberg's economic development director, in a statement. The suburbs have long been targets for outlet malls, with areas such as Cypress and Katy becoming shopping destinations for outlet shoppers. Retail is booming around the city with a mixed-use property featuring 750,000-square-feet of retail space in development on the former site of Camp Strake and supermarkets opening across the greater Houston area.
