Construction Starts on Riverstone School

Riverstone - Construction Starts on Riverstone School

May 12, 2015

The Fort Bend Independent School District has started construction on Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary in Riverstone, the community’s first on-site school.

The two-story facility, at 17828 Winding Waters Lane, is designed for 1,200 students and is expected to open in 2016. The 150,576-square-foot campus will be built to the exacting standards of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) program, which recognizes best-in-class green building strategies and practices. When the school opens, it will be the second school in the Fort Bend ISD that will be LEED-certified.

The estimated project cost is $42.9 million, which includes furniture, fixtures and equipment.

“This will be a state-of-the-art school from the inside out,” said Trey Reichert, vice president and general manager of Riverstone. “We are excited to see it taking shape in the community.”

The school is named for Anne Sullivan, a Dulles High School graduate and Houston firefighter who died in the line of duty on May 31, 2013, when a burning building collapsed, killing her and three of her comrades.

Donna Whisonant, current principal of Austin Parkway Elementary and 27-year district employee, has been named principal of Anne McCormick Sullivan Elementary.
