Cross Creek Ranch - Gumbo Competition Cooks Up $1,700 for Fulshear Police Department FoundationFebruary 19, 2016
New Orleans paid a visit to Cross Creek Ranch in the form of the community’s 1st annual Gumbo Cook Off, benefiting the Fulshear Police Department Foundation. More than 300 people enjoyed delicious gumbo and jambalaya prepared by 10 competing “krewes” during the Jan. 30 event, which raised approximately $1,700 for the police department foundation. Don McCoy, executive director of the Fulshear Area Chamber of Commerce, and several of Fulshear’s finest judged the competition. A large wooden spoon, used in making gumbo, was awarded to first place winners “Krewe de make ya own roux.” “Krewe de Kreekside” and “RugaRoux” finished second and third, respectively. The event was a joint effort between Claire Perrott, lifestyle director for Cross Creek Ranch, and Shawn Stoute, a resident of the master-planned community. Perrot was pleased with the turnout and the success of the fundraiser. “I think next year it will be bigger and better, and this event will grow into a signature event at Cross Creek Ranch,” she said. As Cross Creek Ranch’s lifestyle director, Perrott is responsible for planning a number of community events throughout the year. Residents also enjoy a number of other amenities, including a water park, trails, tennis and basketball courts, a dog park, Italian Maid Café onsite and a boardwalk that traverses a 50-acre wildlife habitat that is a nesting ground for a variety of bird and animal species. |
