Scarecrow Festival Winners Achieve the Final Funtier

Cross Creek Ranch - Scarecrow Festival Winners Achieve the Final Funtier

October 27, 2016

Resistance was futile when it came to choosing the winners of the scarecrow decorating competition at the 2016 Scarecrow Festival hosted by Cross Creek Ranch.

Honoring the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, participants were invited to go where no scarecrow had gone before, bringing to life creations embodying the theme “Scarecrows: The Next Generation.”

Creative teams worked feverishly to craft aliens, robots and other out-of-this-world fabrications, but it was Chris and Shannon Hofer who carried the day with a lifelike member of the Borg Collective. Titled “Resistance is Futile,” the half-human, half-machine villain of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” was a fitting tribute to the iconic television program, netting its creators the $1,000 prize.

Earning second place and $500 were a pair of colorful, one-eyed “Robot Trekkies” built by Bau Hoang with Clarity Eye Care. Heidi Heikkila’s fanciful “Space Cowboy,” sporting a Star Trek red shirt and a pumpkin head took third place and a $250 prize.

In addition to some fabulous handiwork, festival goers enjoyed a carnival, live music, pumpkin decorating, face painting, bobbing for apples, jugglers and more. A $10 wristband allowed people to play games, enjoy rides and climb a rock wall throughout the day.

The Scarecrow Festival is just one of the many yearly events open to the general public in Cross Creek Ranch, a master-planned community located west of the Grand Parkway at the intersection of FM 1463 and FM 1093.
