Harvest Green - New CSA Brings the Farm to the TableMarch 14, 2017
Loam Agronomics is bringing the farm to the table with a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program that will have you looking forward to eating your vegetables. Located adjacent to Harvest Green, the 288-acre farm supplies weekly farm-fresh produce to the Houston area. Becoming a member of the CSA allows you access to high quality, locally grown produce every week at a great rate. A CSA membership offers many advantages to you and to the community. Eating locally supports community farmers and provides members with produce grown without harmful pesticides. Best of all, fruits and vegetables don’t spend days being transported by trucks. All produce can be on your dinner table within 48 hours of harvest. Memberships or “shares” in the CSA are currently priced at $30 per week for a three-quarter bushel of flavorful fresh vegetables. Each box includes 8-15 sustainably grown seasonal vegetables and an information card with recipes and storage information. Residents of Harvest Green receive additional perks — their produce is delivered straight to their doors and they get to skip the waiting list when signing up for their shares. Non-residents can pick up their weekly boxes at several drop-off locations including Blockhouse Coffee, the Citizens Environment Coalition office, Farmboy Brew Shop, Gramen Farms, Great Harvest Bread Company, Presidio and on the Loam Agronomics farm. You can read more about Loam Agronomics here. Sign up for the CSA, here. Harvest Green residents also have access to their very own farm, as well as opportunities to try their hand at farming through the Farm Club — a program that allows them to rent their own growing plots and raise crops guided by the community’s full-time farmers. |
