Trinity Falls - 5 Ways To Get Your Kids Ready For The New School YearJuly 29, 2015
McKinney ISD will be opening its doors to fresh-faced students in just a few weeks. While it's an absolute must to savor the last days of summertime, it is also a good time to slowly start getting your student in the groove of the school year schedule. Here are a few tips on how to get in the mindset of the academic year.
1. Change bedtimes Bedtimes quickly dissipate during the summer, which gives way to later wake up times. While fun when there's no school in session, it's difficult for children to adjust their bedtime schedules once the school year begins. Begin slowly moving bedtimes and wake up times to what they will be once school starts. This will make school nights and mornings a lot easier.
2. Create a schedule Create a family calendar with important dates. This helps plan out your week and allows you to make proper carpool arrangements, doctor appointments, etc. It's a good idea to put test dates and afterschool activities as well.
3. Talk about goals Another good family practice is talking about goals for the school year. Instead of having vague goals like "make good grades," try to help your children set more concrete goals like "completing homework assignments each night by 7pm." This will make each goal attainable and help your children stay on track.
4. Start off strong Strive to have your children begin the first week of school on a good note to continue the entire year long. Some ways to do this are having outfits ready the night before, packing lunches the night before, and getting to school on time. This will reduce a lot of stress that occurs during weekday mornings.
The start of a new school year is exciting, and we wish all of our McKinney ISD students the best of luck this academic year. Do you have any tips on getting your children ready for a school new year? Let us know! |
