Here are some tips to organize your planning for a family vacation:

Three to Four Months Before

• Start saving for your trip! You'll want to make sure you allocate a budget for the trip before heading out. • Request vacation time at work.

• Arrange pet boarding, if necessary.

• Purchase airline tickets, if necessary.

• Purchase local coupon book online.

• Begin planning your daily schedule.

The Week Before

• Stop your mail and newspaper delivery or ask a friendly neighbor to help pick them up for you. People looking to burglarize your home will pick up on subtle hints that you're not home.

• Car maintenance. If you're hitting the road, make sure your car is in tip-top shape! • Ask a neighbor to keep an eye on your house while you're gone.

• Begin packing! • Prepare in-car activities for your kids.

• Give family and friends your contact info.

• Make sure to fill any prescriptions.

• Call to confirm hotel/flight times & dates.

• Go shopping for the trip (sunblock, food, etc.)

• Put together a travel first-aid kit.

• Put together a beach bag, if necessary.

The Day Before

• Clean out your fridge.

• Fill the gas tank.

• Prepare the car (activity kit, food, etc.)

• Get a traveler's check or some cash – you never know when you'll need it.
