Trinity Falls - SJMS Principal Mitch Curry Named Outstanding Principal Of The Year

November 14, 2016

Scott Morgan Johnson Middle School is the home of Trinity Falls students, dedicated teachers and a star principal — Mitchell Curry, recently named the Region 10 Outstanding Principal of the Year.

Curry was selected for the honor by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, which recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals each year from among the 20 regional Education Service Centers across the state. Recipients are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions for exemplary performance and outstanding leadership.

For nearly a decade, Curry has lead SJMS to numerous honors, including being named as a 2016 School to Watch Campus by the Nation Forum and a National Breakthrough Campus, School to Watch, a National AVID Demonstration School and an AVID School of Distinction Nominee, all through U.S. Department of Education.

It is Curry’s ability to unite an extremely diverse student body under the banner of SJMS and imbue the campus with a sense of family that is his most notable accomplishment. This accomplishment is reflected in student test scores and distinctions earned over the years.

Before landing at SJMS, Curry served as an assistant principal at Wylie High School, as the principal at Commerce Middle School and at Commerce High School. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Stephen F. Austin State University, a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M-Commerce and is currently a doctoral candidate at educational leadership at the University of North Texas.

Curry will now be eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Principal of the Year.
