Cross Creek Ranch - Thank You for the Award, Texana Center!June 18, 2018
We love getting awards, but some are more special to us than others. Last month, it was a distinct honor to be awarded the “Community Supporter of the Year” award by one of our favorite non-profit organizations, Texana Center. The center, which provides behavioral healthcare and intellectual and developmental disabilities services to residents in a six-county region, has been a beneficiary of our beloved Scarecrow Fest for the past three years. So far, we’ve raised $23,500 for a new Texana facility in Fulshear that will help even more children and adults. The organization has already broken ground on the first of three buildings planned for its campus along FM 359 north of downtown Fulshear. The first building will house a retail training center for teens and adults with autism and/or intellectual disabilities. The participants will get hands-on experience operating a small bistro-style sandwich, coffee and gift shop. The building also will have a classroom for the expansion of Texana’s Children’s Center for Autism and new adult services that include a daycare program and college-like program. The other two buildings planned for the Fulshear campus will allow both programs to be operated full scale. We’d just like to say thank you once again to Texana Center for the award and remind everyone that the 2018 Scarecrow Fest also will benefit the organization. Planned for Oct. 20, the festival will include a carnival, live music, food trucks and free activities for the children. The highlight of the event is the scarecrow-decorating contest. This year, creative teams are being asked to use their DIY superpowers for good to create a league of caped crusaders. The winner will receive a $1,000 grand prize. Scarecrow Fest takes place 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Cross Creek Ranch, 6450 Cross Creek Bend Lane. The festival is free and open to the public. All-day carnival tickets are $10 per person. |
