Harvest Green - Kids Meet Kitchens at Summer Cooking Camps

Kids with a culinary bent can get a jump on celebrity chef status at any or all of the five cooking camps we’re hosting at Harvest Green this summer.

Our friends from CookLearnGrow, a cooking school for kids, are returning to the Farmhouse, 3400 Harvest Corner Drive, in June and July to help kids master the kitchen as well as their math, science, nutrition and literacy scores.

We’ll be helping out by providing fresh produce from the Village Farm so kids can learn the value of using locally sourced ingredients.

The first camps will be held June 24-27. From 9 a.m.-noon, “Cooking Thru the USA” will take kids ages 7-9 on a journey through America’s most popular regional dishes, including Florida’s key lime pie and Hawaii’s pineapple upside down cake. Tweens ages 10-13 will attempt culinary challenges worthy of a “Master Junior Chef” from 2-5 p.m.

Two camps are available for children ages 7-9 from 9 a.m.-noon in July. “Baking 101” teaches them the basics of baking July 8-11. Kids can learn about growing and cooking with seasonal foods at “Farmers Market” camp July 29-Aug. 1.

Tarts, cupcakes and meringues are on the menu for tweens ages 10-13 at “Baking 102” camp from 2-5 p.m. July 8-11.

Camps are open to the public, and parents can register their children here. Classes are $220 per child, per camp. Some camps can accommodate children with nut allergies, just let them know.

Our cooking sessions aren’t the only camps being served up at Harvest Green. Harvest Green Montessori and Children’s Lighthouse, located within our community, are offering full-day camps.

Harvest Green Montessori is offering weekly camps from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Friday beginning June 3. Camps are for children ages 5 to 12 and will cover a range of topics, including robotics, sports and fashion. Cost depends on camp chosen or sign up for all 10 and save $100.

Children’s Lighthouse will be offering their eXS.T.R.E.A.M.℠curriculum for school-age children featuring weekly themes such as “Dem Bones – Paleontology” and “Get in My Belly – Food Science.” The summer program is also packed with great field trips. Visit the website for details.
