Harvest Green - Meet New Fitness Director Kory JohnsonJanuary 10, 2020
Keeping health and fitness resolutions just got infinitely easier now that Kory Johnson has joined Harvest Green as our new fitness director. Kory grew up playing as many sports as he could handle, including basketball, baseball, track and field, golf and soccer. An interest in health sciences and athletic training led the Houston native to Louisiana State University where he pursued a degree in kinesiology. He also studied adaptation of the human body in response to exercise. At Harvest Green, he will be using this hard-earned knowledge and experience to help motivate, encourage and educate our residents about total body wellness. “Harvest Green is all about healthy, sustainable living, which is the model by which I aim to live my life every day,” Kory said. “Total body wellness is something that I preach. That includes regular exercise and a healthy diet among other things.” He plans to keep our residents on their toes by getting them excited about fitness and implementing programs that offer something for everyone. “We are going to be offering five free classes per week. Within the next few months my goal is to have a morning and evening class every day,” he said. “These classes will include yoga, Zumba, strength training and conditioning. I will continue to add more options to fit every need. We also will offer one-on-one personal training and nutrition counseling for those who need a more specific, customized approach.” He says the key ingredient in any fitness routine is just getting out of the house.“For most people the hardest part is making that transition from contemplation to action,” he said. “For those who struggle with this, one good way to get started is to try a class or go to the gym with a friend. Working out with others will help motivate you to push yourself. For those who are inexperienced, classes will also provide beneficial instruction and help establish a set routine, which is crucial to anyone just getting started.” Kory has begun writing out quick, effective workouts on a white board in our Mind/Body studio with picture examples. The workouts include core and full-body routines that can be added to existing routines or used by residents that need a quick workout. When Kory isn’t working out, you can find him cheering on his favorite Houston and LSU sports teams, playing with his two-year-old son and cooking.
