Cross Creek Ranch - Abigail’s Place Gives Mothers a HomeDecember 01, 2020
According to statistics provided by the National Alliance to End Homelessness, adults and children in families make up about 33 percent of the homeless population. A disproportionate number of those families are headed by single mothers. Abigail’s Place in Richmond works to give those mothers a home — but they need your help. How can you help? Just purchase a new home in Cross Creek Ranch. During our Give Back — Move Forward promotion Dec. 1-31. For every new home purchased, we will donate $500 to one of five charities, including Abigail’s Place, Family Hope, Fort Bend PAWS, Rainbow Room and Texana Center. You choose which charity to support. Also, through the promotion, one buyer will receive an extra gift if they close on their new home by Oct. 31, 2021 — a $5,000 furniture gift card. Abigail’s Place serves Fort Bend single mothers facing episodic homelessness. Episodic homelessness means that these mothers are homeless through no fault of their own. They may have experienced job loss, an illness, losing a family member who was the breadwinner or fleeing domestic violence. Abigail’s Place has three emergency shelter units offering temporary housing for up to four families each year. The fully furnished units have fenced backyards where children can play. In addition, they provide help with transitional housing, rental assistance to keep families in their current homes, security deposits to get families into long-term housing and short-term hotel stays until a long-term solution can be found. The charity also works to get mothers back on their feet and help them move toward self-sufficiency and independence. Clients must reside, be employed in or wish to live in Fort Bend County. They must have a steady source of income and reliable transportation. The most important requirement is that they have a plan. A plan for self-sufficiency that Abigail’s Place councilors will help them create. You can also donate much-needed toiletries and socks. Just bring them to the Cross Creek Ranch Welcome Center, 6450 Cross Creek Bend Lane, and place them under our giving tree. Thank you for your support this holiday season and for giving homeless families a place to call their own.
