Woodforest - Help Operation Pets Alive Help Homeless AnimalsNovember 29, 2021
Every year, hundreds of dogs and cats are abandoned, finding their way to shelters where they risk being euthanized if they are not adopted. One Montgomery County organization is working to stop that, and you can help. Operation Pets Alive is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization striving to elevate Montgomery County to a no-kill community. A no-kill community is one that does not euthanize healthy or treatable animals who could find homes if given enough time and support. The organization strives to reduce killing in shelters through training, adoption, fostering, rescuing and treating animals. They also work to reduce the number of animals that enter shelters in the first place. They do this by spaying and neutering animals so that unwanted puppies and kittens are not dumped at shelters (or worse out in the open), offering behavior modification opportunities to reduce bad habits and rehoming animals. They promote community adoption programs to help animals find loving homes. In 2020, Operations Pets Alive serviced 2,121 animals. They were able to save 93 percent. A trap, neuter and return (TNR) program is thriving this year with 400 feral cats in Montgomery County being trapped, neutered and returned to live better, healthier lives. How can you help? Through Woodforest’s The Giving Tree initiative. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 17, we are collecting donations for seven different charities — including Operation Pets Alive.
