FBISD Eyes Two Riverstone Educators for Best of Best Award

Riverstone - FBISD Eyes Two Riverstone Educators for Best of Best Award

February 21, 2012

Two teachers at schools serving Riverstone’s younger residents are among 11 finalists for the district’s 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year award.

Cindy Cormier, a fifth-grade teacher at Schiff Elementary, and Leslie Guzman, a fifth-grade teacher at Settlers Way Elementary each have won the Teacher of the Year award at their respective campuses and will learn May 3 at FBISD’s annual Teacher of the Year banquet if they are the district’s top teacher for the current school year. The district’s Teacher of the Year then advances to regional competition leading to the Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year and Secondary Teacher of the Year awards. Winners of those competitions become candidates for National Teacher of the Year honors.

The district says the finalists represent “the best in teaching, as do all of the Campus Teachers of the Year.”

Teachers of the Year for 2011-2012 at other school serving Riverstone include:

  • Alicia Henley-Stegent, reading specialist at Austin Parkway Elementary
  • Ann McKie, first-grade teacher at Commonwealth Elementary
  • Robin James, math teacher at First Colony Middle School
  • Shannon Cranford, sixth-grade reading teacher at Fort Settlement Middle School
  • Jaclyn Scales, social studies teacher at Elkins High School

Congratulations to all of these fine educators!
