2 Johnson Communities Rank Among Nation’s Top-Selling

January 15, 2025

Builders sold more than 3,600 homes in Johnson communities last year with two communities — Sienna and Cross Creek Ranch — recording enough sales to again be ranked among the nation’s top-selling master-planned communities. And if that’s not enough, Johnson Development easily remains the developer with the most top-selling communities than any other developer in the nation over the past decade.

Each January, two nationally renowned housing market research firms — John Burns Real Estate Consulting and RCLCO Real Estate Consulting — announce the 50 communities with the most home sales for the previous year.

With 585 home sales in 2024, Sienna is ranked No. 20 on the John Burns list and No. 23 by RCLCO. It’s the eighth consecutive year and 14th time Sienna has been listed among the nation’s top-selling master-planned communities.

Cross Creek Ranch saw 376 new homes sold last year, enough to earn it the No. 49 spot on both lists. It has been ranked among the nation’s 50 best-selling communities every year since 2011. With fewer than 150 opportunities for a new home remaining, however, 2025 will likely be the last year for Cross Creek Ranch to attain national top-selling status.

There’s a good chance other Johnson communities might make future appearances, however. Two — Jordan Ranch and Harvest Green — have both been nationally ranked before and just missed out making this year’s list with 357 and 347 new home sales, respectively.

Plus, sales just began last year in two new communities — Grange in Katy and Kresston in Magnolia. We wouldn’t be surprised if these communities might be listed among the nation’s top-selling in the future.

There were several challenges to the housing market in 2024, both research firms note, including stubborn interest rates, political uncertainty and continued affordability issues. However, the draw of a new home in a master-planned community coupled with builder incentives fueled home sales that nearly matched the robust pace of 2023. According to RCLCO, the best master-planned communities are developed with a strong vision, a comprehensive plan, varied housing options and opportunities for engagement that nurture residents’ lifestyles.

We go beyond that roadmap, adding in desirable locations and often onsite schools that further the sense of community. Sienna and Cross Creek Ranch are prime examples — Sienna is located in Missouri City and has immediate access to the Fort Bend Parkway. Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear borders the new Texas Heritage Parkway. Both communities offer onsite schools that will take children from kindergarten through high school.

Central to the development of all Johnson communities, however, is a focus on cultivating a lifestyle where people can feel at home while out and about within the community. From meeting friends at the park or pool, strolling along trails while walking the dog, gathering at the end of the cul-de-sac for impromptu block parties, to celebrating the season with an annual tree lighting — life in a Johnson community is one of connection and celebration.
