Imperial - Why Come out to The Farmer's Market at Imperial?June 19, 2012
We have a total of 81 vendors participating the Summer Season on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis, averaging 53 vendors each Saturday. Gundermann Farms has the highest sales in produce. Prepared food and value added products are all over the map, but last Saturday Viva Villa Salsa had record sales and we had pouring rain for two of the four hours! This season our two goat cheese vendors consistently sell out each week. Vendors who participate in multiple markets comment that the Farmers Market at Imperial have the biggest crowds. All vendor categories with the exception of high end organic produce vendor claim to do better at our market than any of the surrounding farmers markets. We recently lost Grande Tamale after they were accepted at HEB because of positive exposure when HEB did acooking show at the market. They described it as a "dream come true". Round Rock honey has also been accepted at HEB, but still continues to participate in the market. Hammond Farms is in negotiations with HEB now, and are also supplying Georgia's new home delivery service with cheese. Julie Hammond says she can now quit working at Home Depot and pursue her cheese craft full time. There is cross selling between the vendors at the market and within their small businesses. Zierau's is now famous for his Texas Kobe Beef sliders and Simply Delicious buys produce fromGundermann Farms for her catering events. Proverbs supplies Debbie's Garden with milk for their farm's North Houston farmers market. Farmers Market at Imperial has contributed to the success of start-ups including Grande Tamales, Imperial BBQ,Tavola Pasta, Little Garden Produce and Seeds, Curry Cup, Big Poppa's Kettle Corn, N and N Group, Zappatos Dog Biscuits and numerous artists who have exhibited for the first time at the market. This Saturday we are featuring two new start ups, Imperial Noodles, who will sell asian inspired foods and a back yard worm farmer. The market has been a successful venue for existing businesses to promote their brand including Philadelphia Water Ice, The Skeeters and Berryhills who just opened a new restaurant in Sugar Land. We have also enabled a number of local musicians who have used the Saturday event to gain valuable experience under the band tent, sometimes playing after the scheduled musician wraps up.
