Giving Back Has Never Been So Fun!

September was all about giving back (and having fun!) for the Johnson Development Realtor Relations team, as they helped build homes and supported the YMCA — along with some of their favorite Realtor partners!

After last year’s very successful Habitat for Humanity Build Day, the JDC team was back this year, with about 30 Realtors and team members. They spent the day cutting, nailing and preparing wood formations for five new homes the organization is building this month. Johnson Development donated $5,000 to reserve their Build Day, funds that will go toward paying for the cost of the home.

Each home Habitat for Humanity builds takes more than 2,500 hours of volunteer work spread over about 400 volunteer shifts and 12 Build Days. People approved for a home also must put in 175 hours of “sweat equity” before they are assigned a home and then 175 additional hours before closing on their home with a zero percent interest mortgage.

The JDC North team also gave it their all during the YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge on Sept. 29. More than two dozen Realtors joined them for the event, running an obstacle course, participating in the race and playing dodgeball and giant trashcan pong ball. The energetic team won trashcan pong and took home the Spirit Award for their exuberance and sportsmanship.

Money raised supports community-strengthening programs by The Woodlands Family YMCA. Seventy-five teams participated in this year’s race, which is in its 24^th year.

The charity work isn’t done for the year, however. The JDC North team will be putting meal bags together and sorting food at Meals on Wheels in Conroe on Nov. 1. Two shifts are available — from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 10 a.m. to noon. Spots are limited, so those interested should sign up soon.

Later in the month, the JDC South team will host a toy drive-through event on Nov. 29 at 5403 Ave. N, in Rosenberg. Holiday attire is very much encouraged.
