Get Out, Get Inside, Beat the Heat

Nolina - Get Out, Get Inside, Beat the Heat

July 22, 2024

Feeling trapped because it’s too hot to be outside? We get it. No matter how beautiful and energy-efficient your Nolina home is, there are times when you just want to get out and do something fun. Fortunately, there are many cool, indoor places near Nolina where you can go to have a good time. Here are our favorites:

Georgetown Public Library

Take the family to one or more of the many events hosted by the Georgetown Public Library, including ukulele lessons, afternoon movies, family story time and teen activities. The library also hosts art exhibits year-round and has received the silver or gold award for “Best Place to View Art” in the Best of Georgetown Awards every year since 2014.

Film Alley

When it comes to indoor fun, Film Alley has it all. Grab a comfortable lounge chair, order from the full-service bar and restaurant, sit back and enjoy the latest film. Not in the mood for a movie? Film Alley also offers duck pin bowling, an arcade and ax throwing.

Pinstripes Georgetown

Italian food, bowling and bocce ball? Where do we sign up? The bocce ball court is indoors so you can have fun and stay cool. Pinstripes is open 7 days a week but it’s so popular reservations are recommended. As you play, you can order food and cocktails from an extensive menu.

Georgetown Palace Theatre

Evenings can be a tad warm. Cool down with a live show at the historic Georgetown Palace Theater. The current summer line-up includes “Bright Star,” “A Funny Little Thing Called Love,” “Cats” and “Dead Man’s Cell Phone.” Most shows start at 7:30 but there are 2 p.m. matinees if you need an afternoon cool-down.

Georgetown Recreation Center

Swim, hit the gym, play racquetball, take a yoga class, follow the indoor running track and more. There’s also an activity room featuring a morning coffee service, puzzle table, card games, board games, table tennis and monthly events.

All Things Kids

Take the kids to a place created just for them. Home to unique and creative toys, the store has a Scoops ice cream parlor. Choose a flavor and watch them pack it into a house-made vanilla waffle cone. You can also get an old-fashioned milkshake or sundae.

Georgetown Art Center

The GAC offers visual art exhibits, artist talks and receptions all free to the public. It’s also home to the Cordovan Art School where artists of all ages and abilities can channel their creative energy into masterpieces.

Wolf Ranch Town Center

While technically an open-air shopping center, Wolf Ranch Town Center offers plenty of air-conditioned stores and restaurants to explore — more than 80 in fact. Hit up Target, Best Buy, Michael’s, Ulta, Old Navy, Boot Barn, Kirkland’s and more. If you get hungry, stop in at Starbuck’s, Fish City Grill, Longhorn Steakhouse, Smokey Mo’s BBQ, or Panda Express.

Inner Space Cavern

Located just outside Georgetown, this natural cave system maintains a constant cool temperature year-round, offering guided tours and a unique way to escape the heat.
