Larry Johnson Named to Texas Housing Hall of HonorDecember 20, 2024
In recognition of his incredible impact on shaping the development of master-planned communities in Texas, the Texas Association of Builders has inducted Johnson Development Founder Larry Johnson into the prestigious Texas Housing Hall of Honor.
Launched in 2008, the Texas Housing Hall of Honor celebrates people who have made significant and lasting contributions to the Texas housing industry. The award was presented to Larry’s family during a black-tie Excellence in Leadership Dinner in late November.
Larry launched Johnson Development in 1975 in Houston, excited about the region’s potential. Going beyond the standard pillars of residential development at that time, Larry focused on creating communities centered on the lifestyle of residents. In his own words:
“We try to create a community where they [residents] have a great lifestyle, their kids are active, they’re active in our community.”
Larry and the Johnson Development team succeeded, creating communities that drew buyers seeking more than a home. Many of these communities gained national recognition for their quality and popularity, ranked numerous times among the nation’s top-selling master-planned communities. Larry’s approach has been a roadmap for developers following in his footsteps.
Larry Johnson passed away in 2022, but his mark remains as the Johnson Development team continues to uphold his legacy of creating communities that celebrate life. |
