Kresston - Larry Johnson Named to Texas Housing Hall of Honor

Here in Kresston, we invite people to live legendary — just like Johnson Development Founder Larry Johnson.

Kresston is named for Larry, who established his namesake company that is developer of Kresston 50 years ago. Larry grew up in Kress, a small west Texas town about an hour south of Amarillo. Working alongside his family on a 300-acre tenant farm, Larry developed a love for the land that served him well as he left to attend college and then moved to Houston and began a long real estate career marked with countless achievements.

Larry passed away in 2022, but his legacy and achievements continue. Most recently, the Texas Association of Builders inducted Larry into the prestigious Texas Housing Hall of Honor in recognition of how he shaped the development of master-planned communities not just in Texas, but across the nation.

Launched in 2008, the Texas Housing Hall of Honor celebrates people who have made significant and lasting contributions to the Texas housing industry. The award was presented to Larry’s family during a black-tie Excellence in Leadership Dinner in late November.

We are proud to be a tangible tribute to Larry Johnson, a man revered for his vision, hard work, pioneering spirit and love of family. It’s easy to see why he is considered a legend!
